PLEASE HELP! Raise money for Breast Cancer Research Foundation

This is a really simple competition from Wineweaver – make a Cork Buddy and they will donate money to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.  As the end date is 31st October, I’m just going to link details in the hope that some of you may be able to, or want to, enter – the more entries they get the more they will donate to Pink Month.

Hoping we’ll have time to go ourselves so I’ll update this post as and when. If you have a go I’d love to see your photos. If you’re able to share this info with your blog followers, Facebook, Twitter or any other friends, I’d be REALLY grateful!

This is their example!

Nearly got in SERIOUS trouble with husband’s you-must-not-touch-this-as-you-will-get-stuck-to-it-do-you-understand? glue today. Can kind of see what he’s going on about now as I was at one point stuck to my cork. Then it was stuck to the dining table. I have now stuck, quite possibly literally, a placemat over that sticky bit on the table, so hopefully no-one will notice…or want to move it. Anyhoooo, here’s the result!! Our Wineweaver #corkbuddies. Friends will not be surprised to hear that I think we have fairies at the bottom of our garden…..

"We live at the bottom of Rachel's garden!"

“We live at the bottom of Rachel’s garden!”

Mum’s having a go too, so will hopefully post her buddies soon 🙂

That Channel is Swimmed!

Well, yes, I’ve made it – 1416 lengths of our local pool, the equivalent of the length of the Channel, and fortunately well within the deadline of 6th December. It’s been a good challenge, which I’d recommend for anyone who wants to get a bit of discipline in their exercising life! The only downside was the lack of duty-free available once I’d finished!

The most lengths swam in one go was 96 – believe me I couldn’t have made the extra 4 lengths to make it to 100, but then I wanted to count in 8’s (never my strongest timetable!) or 16’s….or 4’s or 2’s on desperate days, so that was fine. The most done in a day was probably when I went twice and did 88 both times.

I’m now wondering whether I’ll miss swimming so often, whether I’ll keep it up on a regular basis or whether I’m  happy to hang up my suit and not smell like a swimming pool!

Here’s my Aspire Challenge page so you can see how I’ve done, and just on the off-chance someone would like to get a sneaky last minute donation for this very good cause, for which I’d be eternally grateful….

Funniest moment in the pool over the last few weeks was the elderly lady who stopped swimming as we were part way through a length. I stopped too worried that she had a problem to which she replied “I’m stiffening up dear, I need some of that UB40”!!  I think she probably meant WD40 but we decided between us that UB40 was perhaps a better idea – Red, Red Wine ought to work wonders on stiffening joints hadn’t it?!

The friend who encouraged me to take up this challenge has also finished. She’s now saying that she’s considering doing there AND back next year. As for me, I’m considering…..looking for new, more sensible friends!

Wow, that pool's cold today....

Anyone need a charity photocopier?! (Exeter area)

I mean a photocopier FOR their charity of course, not a photocopier of charities….!

Sharing this message from the very nice people at Exeter Cleaning Company, who I follow on Facebook, just in case anyone knows of any Exeter based charity who could benefit from their very kind offer…. Hope it helps someone!

Exeter Cleaning

We need your help!

We have a working photocopier that we no longer need and we would like it to give it away to a local, Exeter charity. Photocopiers aren’t cheap but, rather than flog it, we’d rather a charity got some use out of it.

So, please could you share this status update so that as many people find out as possible and, if you are a local charity that would like a photocopier, please contact us (Like this page and then message us – there should be a message button at the top right of this page (just under the cover pic)). Once we’ve had a couple of requests, we’ll pick someone! 🙂

Thanks everyone! 🙂
